Placemats

Last week I went on a quilting shop hop.  The first day we drove 381 miles visiting seven different shops in 11 hours.  It was a long day but we sure had fun seeing all the great things the quilt stores had for us to enjoy.  Two days later, we went to the last three.  Always lots of new things and of course, I found a couple of new projects.

One of them was a four in one placemat.  It is really pretty cool and very easy to make.  I bought some of that realistic vegetable/fruit fabric--peaches, cherries, peas and yellow squash.  My placemat is very colorful as you can see!  Of course, when unfolded you would only see one color at a time.  I like them because you can have a different look with a turn of your mat!

  1. Linda, they look great. I too saw that fabric and I wanted it but I really did not know what to make with it. You did good.

  2. Cute. Is there a pattern available for this placemat?

  3. Thanks for the nice comments! If you google "four-sided placemat" you will get a site to order these that come with a template. You can cut all four at once. So quick!

  4. those are awesome! I've been avoiding buying that fabric, even though I liked it, because I couldn't think of a placemat style I liked to go with it. I may have to consider an imitation version of those. Thanks for sharing!

  5. You just lay out 4 layers, swish with the rotary cutter, then restack before sewing swiches together?

  6. Well, it's not quite that easy. You sew two layers together but just sew half way around the placemat. You fold back, add another fabric, sew halfway, fold back and add the last one. Then turn inside out. It's kind of hard to explain. But once you do it, you'll understand. Good Luck!
